- Gums are red, puffy, swollen or tender
- Gums bleed during brushing or flossing
- Your teeth appear longer because your gums are receding
- Your gums separated or pulled away from your teeth, creating a pocket

- Visible pus between your teeth and gums
- Constant bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth
- Your teeth have a lot of plaque and calculus build-up
